Better Bikeways at GOOD

Good Magazine recently asked me to write a series of articles for their website about my Better Bikeways project and the future of bike planning for Los Angeles. You can read the first installment here which gives an overview of the BB proposal and a second installment talking about the potential of LA's 4th Street Bikeway was just posted here.
Thanks to the folks at Good for inviting me to write about such an important subject!

INDEX: | AIGA Aspen Design Challenge

This past fall Louise Sandhaus and I served as faculty advisors for the CalArts entry in the 2008 INDEX: | AIGA Aspen Design Challenge: Designing Water's Future. Under our guidance a team of six graduate and undergraduate students worked together to design a campaign that would address a local aspect of the global water crisis. This work resulted in a proposal for a campaign titled "Rethink Your Green" which encouraged Angelenos to replace water-hungry traditional lawns with landscaping that saved water and was more appropriate to Southern California's dry mediterranean climate.
The jury for the Challenge has just announced that the CalArts team was chosen as one of seven finalists (drawn from the more than 225 entries from 28 countries that they received) invited to refine their concepts and develop business plans at a meeting in Aspen, Colorado, this July and Copenhagen, Denmark this August. At that time, one of the finalists will also be selected to receive the INDEX: | AIGA Aspen Design Challenge Prize, which, through the generous support of the JL Foundation, will include a $10,000 grant to implement the proposal.
You can read a press release about the contest here.
Congratulations to all the project participants!
